A UV-A(365nm) lamp can help Authentication of exclusive wines
Forgery
This short article explains how a UV-A(365nm) lamp can help in the process of authentication.
Old bottles
For old bottles of wine, you can look at the paper or glue remains of the label.
Papers produced before 1950 do not light up under UV-A(365 nm) light. After 1950 a substance was added to paper (ultra white) which made paper whiter, this caused the fluorescence visible in paper. A label of a bottle of wine from before 1950 will never light up under UV-A(365nm) light. Old adhesives from before 1960 with which the label is stuck on the bottle hardly react to UV-A(365nm) light, newer synthetic adhesives do light up under UV-A(365nm) light. So this can give an indication if the bottle is as old as the age stated on the bottle.
New bottles
Newer bottles of wine sometimes have UV holograms or codes printed on the label or bottle. These are not visible under normal light, only when a UV-A(365 nm) lamp is shone on the label they can be made visible. This allows you to give an indication of whether a new bottle of wine is original or a fake.
